1. Forewords
The purpose of legalization is to enable notarial documents issued by one country to be accepted by the corresponding department of another country, in the light that the authenticity of the signature or the seal of the document could be questioned or the legal efficacy of such documents could well be affected. In doing so, the documents are taking effect beyond the home country's territory. In accordance with Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and relevant regulations, The Chinese embassy in Ireland accept applications for legalizations in Ireland.

2. Procedures for legalizations
Step One: If your documents were not issued by an Irish government authority, please have them notarised by a local international notary public.
Step Two: Have documents, which have been notarised by notaries, notarised by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland. If the documents were issued by an Irish government department, you may have them legalised directly by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland.
Step Three: After completing the initial stage of notarisation and legalization, submit the documents to the Chinese embassy for legalization.

3. Documents needed for the application of legalization
If the documents issued in Ireland are to be used in China, they need to be legalized. You may apply in person or entrust someone else to apply for legalization at the Chinese Embassy. Documents you need to prepare for the legalization include:
1) A completed Application Form of Notarization/Legalization；
2) The original copy of the notarial document legalized by Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland, and a photocopy of the document;
3) Documents containing two or more pages must be tied together securely and sealed properly by the notary office. The Embassywill not legalize a document if it fails to meet the format standards or is found forged, counterfeited or altered;
4) If there is any blank page in your documents (including covers), please mark this page with letters such as "This page has no contents.";
5) Your valid passport and a photocopy of your passport;
6) If you have entrusted someone else to apply for legalization on your behalf, the entrustee must provide his or her valid passport and a photocopy of the passport, as well as a photocopy of your passport; In addition, if the entrustee is a company or an organization, the company or the organization is also required to provide a letter of authorization to the person who hands in the application at the consular office;
7) Business license legalization requires a photocopy of the passport of the company's corporate representative (e.g. chairperson, director, ...) and a document which proves his or her legal status as the company's legal representative.
4. Processing Time and Payments
Processing time: 5 working days
Payments: Civil Documents: 6 Euro/Copy (Chinese Citizen) 20 Euro/Copy (Non-Chinese Citizen)
Business Documents: 13 Euro/Copy (Chinese Citizen) 40 Euro/Copy (Non-Chinese Citizen)
1. The Chinese embassy is only responsible for the authenticity of the signatures of the officials of Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland. The issuing party should be responsible for the content of the documents.
2. In case that the entrustee is unwilling to open the envelope containing the document for legalization,or not being able to answer relevant questions, or not being able to provide relevant documents, the Chinese embassy reserves the right to decline the application and does not take responsibilities for the delay of processing the application if the required document is not provided in time.
3. The Chinese embassy only issues a ticket for collecting the documents for legalization and does not sign on any receipts after having received the application documents.
