On March 23, Ambassador He Xiangdong made solemn representations with Secretary General of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland over the EU sanctions against China under the pretext of so-called “human rights in Xinjiang”.

The unilateral sanctions imposed on relevant Chinese individuals and entity by the EU are based on lies and disinformation. This wrong decision deliberately provokes confrontation, grossly interferes in China's internal affairs, and severely undermines China-EU relations. The Chinese side expresses its firm opposition and strong condemnation to the sanctions.

China’s will and determination to safeguard its sovereignty, security and development interests are unwavering. China's decision to sanction relevant EU individuals and entities is a justifiable and reasonable response. China urges the EU to redress its mistakes immediately, stop using Xinjiang-related matters to interfere in China's internal affairs, so as not to cause further damage to China-EU relations.
