The beauty of the countryside lies not only in the picturesque natural scenery but also in the myriad colourful folk customs that have been passed down from generation to generation. There are ancient handicrafts handed down, myths passed down by word of mouth, and traditional music and theatre, time-honoured methods of agricultural production and local daily customs are played out in detail. These intangible elements of cultural heritage carry the cultural memories of various ethnic groups and are spiritual homes that are worthy of the common protection of mankind.

The Beautiful Countryside and Intangible Heritage Protection video exhibition project selected 5 stunning villages from all over China -Gansu’s Qingyang, Guizhou’s Leishan, Hunan’s Huayuan, Tibet’s Nimu and Yunnan’s Fugong, and tells glowing contemporary stories full of vitality about these villages straight from the inheritors and protectors of the lands themselves.
