On April 15, Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan participated in a live interview with RTÉ, during which he responded to questions regarding the abuse of tariffs by the United States and the current state of China-EU economic and trade relations.
Ambassador Zhao reaffirmed China's long-standing commitment to mutually beneficial and win-win international trade cooperation. He emphasized that if the United States persists in provoking a tariff and trade war that undermines China's legitimate interests, China will resolutely defend its rights and interests. While China firmly opposes decoupling, the door to dialogue and consultation remains open. But such dialogue must be conducted on the basis of equality, respect and mutual benefit.
Ambassador Zhao said that complex issues cannot be resolved through simplistic means, and that managing differences through open dialogue and consultation serves the shared interests of both China and Europe. He emphasized that China's participation in global trade has not only contributed to its own development, but also brought tangible benefits to many countries around the world. China has never, and will never, pressure any country to choose sides between China and the United States.
