Chair of CPPCC Foreign Affairs Committee Visits Ireland

At the invitation of Houses of the Oireachtas of Ireland, a delegation headed by Mr. Pan Yunhe, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) visited Ireland from May 24 to 27, 2013.

 

 
 
During the visit, the delegation, which also comprised former Chinese Ambassador to the United States Zhou Wenzhong and Vice General Manager Zhou Liqun of China Chengtong Holdings Group Ltd., paid a courtesy call on Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann Seán Barrett T.D., who shared his fond memories of a week-long visit to China from May 12 to 19.

 

 
 
The delegation held a bilateral meeting with the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Foreign Affairs and Trade. They both agreed that there is a great potential for mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Ireland in Agriculture, Education, Tourism and other fields and that CPPCC is willing to work with both houses of the Irish Parliament in enhancing mutual understanding and friendly exchanges between Chinese and Irish peoples, with a view to delivering more tangible benefits through practical cooperation. Mr. Paddy Burke Cathaoirleach of Seanad Éireann hosted a luncheon at Leinster House in honour of Mr. Pan and his delegation.

 

 
 
The delegation also visited the Dublin City Council, University College Dublin (UCD) and the Digital Hub to do some research on urbanization and Intelligent City.

 

Chinese Ambassador to Ireland H.E. Luo Linquan attended some of the above events.
