Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the People's Republic of China and Ireland

The Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of Ireland have decided to establish diplomatic relations at Ambassadorial level and to exchange Ambassadors.

The Government of Ireland recognizes the Government of the People’s Republic of China as the sole legal Government of China.

The two Governments have agreed to develop friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries on the basis of the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in each other’s internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit including the promotion of trade.

The two Governments have agreed mutually to provide all necessary assistance for the establishment and performance of the functions of diplomatic missions in their respective capitals on the basis of equality and mutual benefit and in accordance with international usage.
