Li Keqiang Meets with President David W. Panuelo of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM)

On the afternoon of December 13, 2019, Premier Li Keqiang met at the Great Hall of the People with President David W. Panuelo of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), who was paying a state visit to China.

Li Keqiang expressed, this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the FSM. Bilateral relations enjoy sound and stable development at present. President Xi Jinping and Mr. President will hold talks to push for new development of China-FSM relations. The Chinese side always advocates that all countries, big or small, are equal members of the international community. The Chinese side firmly supports the FSM side in choosing its own development path suited to its national conditions, and is willing to work with the FSM side to push forward the China-FSM comprehensive strategic partnership on the basis of mutual respect and equal treatment.

Li Keqiang pointed out, both China and the FSM are developing countries. China is willing to strengthen the alignment of respective development strategies and deepen cooperation in various fields, especially in the development and processing of marine fisheries, so as to better achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. The Chinese side attaches great importance to the special concerns of the FSM side and other Pacific island countries on climate change, always stands for active implementation of the Paris Agreement, and is willing to strengthen the South-South cooperation and experience exchanges on climate change with the FSM side.

David W. Panuelo stated, FSM-China relations enjoy robust development with substantial progress. The FSM side pays high attention to developing relations with China and will abide by the One China policy. The FSM side is ready to take the opportunity of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations to maintain close high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, strengthen cooperation in various fields, deepen friendship between the two peoples and elevate bilateral relations to new highs. The FSM side highly appreciates the Chinese side's contributions to tackling climate change and stands ready to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side under the framework of the United Nations.
