On August 28, Chinese Embassy in Ireland hosted the Screening of the Sinking of the Lisbon Maru to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the World Anti-Fascist War. Chinese Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan delivered an address at the event, with the presence of guests from various sectors including business, media, think tanks and universities.

Ambassador Zhao emphasized that, as the main eastern battlefield of the World Anti-Fascist War, the Chinese people made immense sacrifices and significant contributions to the ultimate victory. This victory could not have been achieved without the invaluable solidarity and mutual support of peace-loving and justice-seeking nations and peoples across the world. The peace and prosperity we enjoy today were hard-won, and it is our shared responsibility to remember history, honor the memory of the martyrs, cherish peace, and work together to build a better future.
Ambassador Zhao, together with the guests, watched the documentary the Sinking of the Lisbon Maru and engaged in in-depth exchanges. The guests expressed sorrow for the suffering endured by people of all nations during the war, and voiced their interest in learning more about China’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. They also emphasized the importance of promoting an accurate understanding of the history of World War II and of working together to safeguard peace.
