Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan Meets with Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly

On 15 January, Ambassador Zhao Xiyuan met with Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly at An Garda Síochána Headquarters and congratulated him on assuming office. The two sides held in‑depth discussions on China–Ireland bilateral relations, safeguarding the security of Chinese institutions and personnel in Ireland, and multilateral police cooperation.

Ambassador Zhao briefed Commissioner Kelly on the recent visit of Taoiseach Micheál Martin to China. This visit marked the first trip to China by an Irish Taoiseach in 14 years and the first visit to China by a European leader this year. Both sides agreed that it carries significant importance for deepening China–Ireland relations.

Commissioner Kelly outlined the measures taken by the Garda to maintain public security and strengthen policing capacity. Both sides agreed to maintain communication and work together to protect the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese institutions and citizens in Ireland.
